Description of King Vulture: Scientific name: (Sarcoramphus papa). King Vultures are found mainly in dense tropical forest on the continents of Central America and South America. In the wild they feed on Carron and meat from dead animals. Female King Vulture  lays only a single egg, they do not build nests, instead they lay their egg in tree stumps or in fallen logs. These birds have a life-span of between 20 to about 25 years. They are the most colourful of all vultures with a yellow bill along with yellow and red skin on their heads. They have creamy white feathers on their chest with black flight feathers and tail. Like most vultures they have bald heads which enables them to push their heads deep into a carcasses without getting their feathers dirty. King Vultures have strong beaks, when other birds see the king vulture heading for a carcass they all move out of the way. These birds have been known to kill small calves, and they are not afraid of humans. They are subjected to loss of habitat and being poisoned due to farmers killing other animals by poison which the king vultures then eat, hence the decline of these special birds. Yet, these birds play an important role by eating the dead meat of animals and preventing wide spread disease around the world. King Vultures are the largest New World vulture except for the Condors. They have a wing-span of 4ft and reach altitudes of around 4,000ft.
