Short SC1 Aircraft Picture
A description of the Fixed Winged Short SC1 Aircraft XG900 shown in photograph above: The Short SC1 was the first British air plane with fixed wing vertical take-off and landing. The SC1 Short Aircraft was powered by four vertically mounted, lightweight Rolls-Royce RB108 lift engines which provide a vertical thrust of 8,600 lb, along with another Rolls Royce RB.108 cruise engine at the rear of the aircraft to provide forward flight thrust. The SC1 Short Aircraft was manufactured in Northern Ireland by Short Brothers Belfast Aircraft Factory. this aircraft was only used by the Royal Aircraft Establishment for experimental use! The SC1 Short Aircraft did achieve the vertical take-off and transition from vertical to horizontal flight in testing! Short SC1 air plane can be found on a hanger on display in the Science Museum in London, UK!
