Lion-tailed Macaque Brief Description: of the Lion-tailed Macaque! Scientific name- (Macaca silenus)! Lion-tailed Macaques are found in South-west India, they spend most of their time high in the trees of the dense forests foraging for fruits and leaves! Macaque monkeys get their name Lion-tailed Macaque because of the hairy tuft at the end of their tails, which bears resemblance to a Lion's tail! They also have a mane and long greyish brown hair just like a big male Lion! Lion-tailed Macaques are found only in the tropical forest in the mountains of Western Ghat, located in India! The Lion Macaques developed a rather strict social order in which the male of the species who is in control of a group of females macaque are the ones that call the shots! In other words the dominant primate male has the privilege and rights to breed all the females of the group and he will fight and chase away all rival males! Lion-tailed Macaque primates have around 17 different calls and they also make use of facial expressions and body language in order to communicate with each other!
