Picture of a Lilly Trotter BirdA description of the Lilly Trotter Bird (Actophilornis africanusas) as shown in picture above! Lilly Trotter birds are also known as Jacana and Jesus Bird! The Lilly Trotter bird is often found near ponds, lakes and swamps! These birds are able to walk on water lilly vegetation or what is known as water lilly pads! The reason for their broad feet is to enable them spread their weight so that they are able to walk on water lillies so that the leaves don't bend nor sink! The Jacana Lilly Trotter bird literally trots on leaves looking for insects to feed on! They are easily identifiable birds by their broad feet and claws! The bird normally uses it's sharp bill and spurs attached to the bends of their wings for fighting! The water lilly broad-feet birds are normally found on the continent of Africa ranging from Senegal, Gambia, Mauritania, East of Ethiopia, Somalia, South Namibia, Botswana, and South Africa! Some broad-feet species are also found in Australia and Asia! Several species have wattles on their foreheads as shown in picture above which is an indication of an African Lilly Trotter Jacana bird! Apart from being called lilly trotters and jacana! They are also described by many as Jesus birds because they can walk above water! | |
