Brief Description of Kniphoria uvaria Flowers in the Photograph: These flowers are also known as Torch Lilly, Tritoma and Flaming Swords. Its original scientific name was Tritoma but was changed in 1794 to Kniphofia in honour of Johan Hieronymous Kniphof. The plant first came to England in 1770 from South Africa. 1848 the Torch Lilly was planted outdoors in Kew Gardens.
