African Golden Cat Picture*Description of African Golden Cat shown in picture above. Scientific name for Lion is (Panthera leo). Lions are the second largest cat after the tiger. African lions are sometimes described as the golden cats of Africa or just plain African Golden Cats. Lions Live For 20 Years in Captivity!*Animal facts: Female lions have a longer life span in the wild than male lions. Where as a male lion hardly ever survive after 8 years a female lion's survival will last for up to 14 years. However, both male and female lions can live up to 20 years in captivity. Nonetheless, the lions or Golden Cats have become endangered species. And, although they maybe called African lions, there are also some populations of lions found in northwest Asia! Arranged Breeding Saves Species!*On the whole, golden cats have disappeared completely from North Africa and the Middle East. Some lions can be found in parts of eastern and southern Africa. With the concept of world wide arranged breeding programs being set to return young lions to their habitats they are now generally protected in reserves, but hunting is still fairly common in those areas. If it was not for preservations and zoos, lions would have become extinct! |
