Picture Mute Swans Image
*Description of Adult and Juvenile Mute Swans: Scientific name for mute swans is (Cygnus olor) The picture shown on this page is that of an Adult Mute Swan with her offsprings. The adult mute swan is larger than the female species, but the female has a larger knob on her bill.
Male and Female Mute Swans
*Male mute swans are known as cobs and females are known as pens. Juvenile mute swans like all young swans are known as cygnets and for first year the mute swan cygnet (beak) bill will remain a kind of dull greyish black. However, mute swans are very protective of their territories and off-springs and can be quite aggressive in comparison to the black swan and the whooper swans.
Swans Can Deliver Powerful Blows
*Though the mute swan may appear tame at times, it is wise never to approach mute swans while they are within their territory or especially, when they're with their young off-springs. Mute swans can deliver powerful blows with their wings and could easily break the leg of a human. Mute swans has been known to attack humans. As large as Canada geese are, the Canada geese are no match at all for the mute swan!
